The efficient working of the School's computer equipment depends on the good sense and co-operation of all users. In using the system, I am accepting this principle and, in particular, the points below:
System Security and Usage
1) I will not use School computer equipment for illegal purposes of any kind and will respect the integrity of such systems. For example, I will not intentionally develop or use programs that harass other users or infiltrate a computer or network nor damage or alter any of the software or hardware components of a computer or network. I will not install software of any type on any School computer. I will not run any software other than that installed by a member of the Computer Services department.
2) I am responsible for my own individual account and will take all reasonable precautions to prevent others from being able to use my account. Under no conditions will I provide my password to another person.
3) I will respect the privacy of others; for example, I shall not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, other data, or passwords belonging to others, or represent myself as another user. This includes attempting to log in through another person's account or access another person's files.
4) I will not use School computer equipment to interfere with or disrupt network users, services, software or equipment. Disruptions include, but are not limited to, distribution of advertising, propagation of computer viruses, and using the network to make unauthorised entry into any machine accessible via the network.
5) I will not go looking for security problems, because this may be construed as an illegal attempt to gain access.
6) I will not use School computer equipment for commercial purposes. This means I will not offer, provide, or maintain commercial products or services.
7) I will not use School computer equipment for playing games.
8) I understand that all activities on these systems may be monitored and expressly consent to such monitoring.
Personal Safety
1) I will not post personal contact information about myself or other people. Personal contact information includes your address, telephone number, school address or work address.
2) I will not agree to meet with someone I have met online without my parents' approval.
3) I will not use or produce obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening, or disrespectful language or images. I will promptly disclose to a teacher or a member of the Computer Services Department any message I receive that is inappropriate or makes me feel uncomfortable. I will not use the Network to access or propagate material that is profane or obscene (such as pornography), that advocates illegal acts, or that advocates violence or discrimination towards other people (such as hate literature).
Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement
1) I will respect the legal protection provided by copyright and licence to programs and data.
2) I will not plagiarise works that I find on the Internet or on CD-ROM's. (Plagiarism is taking the ideas or writings of others and presenting them as if they were yours.)
